For the first time, a child born HIV positive was cured with antiretroviral treatment in the first days of life. They hypothesize that the prompt, aggressive regimen prevented the virus from establishing reservoirs in the body before it was eradicated.

Clinical researchers are already designing studies to try and replicate the results. This is actually happening in our generation, you guys.

I had tears in my eyes when I first read the news, not gonna lie. A cure's still a long way off - once the reservoirs established, it becomes exponentially harder to cure rather than hold at bay - but it's a big step closer than it seemed yesterday.

Unless I fall off a cliff tomorrow, it's now *known* that I will.

Now, I only have Halley's Comet to wait on. AND I AM OK WITH THAT.

A real cure, one that can route out the reservoirs once they're established, is still a long way off, but it's a big step closer than it seemed last week.

When we get there, I'll be glad to settle for waiting on Halley's Comet with you. Meanwhile, we get to see this happen omg.
