The latest box is nearly finished. It just needs a few more coats of varnish before it gets reassembled with the hinges and clasp.

Top

Bottom

Front (repeated on back, though the green border bands are thinner so the entire gold design is on the brown background. The ugly bit in the middle is the area that'll be covered by the clasp, so I wasn't too concerned about making it pretty.)

Blurry shot of the inside lid.
Are there problems with it? Oh yes, there are problems. Lots of problems. New ones jump out at me every time I glance at it. But a) it's a gift, and considering my mother treasured the scribbled crayon drawings of my toddlerhood, I don't think she's going to mind a few sloppy lines, b) art is the area where I get to be not-a-perfectionist (DO YOU HEAR THAT, SELF? IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE GOD'S GIFT TO ART.)
It'll be a birthday gift for my mother. When I asked her for any guidelines she said she wanted dragons, though I have the sneaking suspicion that was just because she knows I like drawing 'em. Since she's a doctor, a twist on the caduceus seemed appropriate.
